About Time I Did Another Post

It has been over a year since I last posted anything on my blog. I have been busy so have no shortage of stuff to write about. I have been involved in putting on a Quilting Exhibition with Sutton Quilters, it included participants from France and Germany, for which we did 18 months of fund raising. It was satisfyingly successful and we are contemplating holding one ourselves in 2015. I wrote a blog about our progress and the Exhibition in Sutton. It can be viewed at

Last year I put a quilt into the Festival of Quilts, the second time I have entered quilts for this exhibition. I also made one for the Hever Challenge 'In an English Country Garden'. I contributed to the fund raising items for our Exhibition with bags, Christmas decorations and some lovely bird ornaments, these were so nice I had to make myself some.

This year I have entered quilts into the Sutton Quilters exhibition and the Hever Exhibition. The Hever exhibition this year called for entries to be hung outside, as I had an idea I thought 'Why not' and this is the result:

It is made from 3 inch CD's with the printed side covered with spent dye catchers from my fabric dyeing and sheer polyester fabrics gathered at the front. The spaces have spiders webs made with iridescent thread. Yes, there are two spiders, one on a web and one dangling from the bottom. The back also has butterflies, damsel flies and a ladybird made from beads and dye catchers. The name is a play on words as my initials are CD. It seems to be standing up to the outside so far in the garden, under the pergola so it is protected from the weather. It was photographed hanging from the bower, when it moves on the swivel it catches the light and sends out lovely patterns across the bottom of the garden, exactly the effect I hoped to see. Don't you love it when things work to plan.

 I also belong to a small group (Quirky Quilters), five of us met at quilting classes and the sixth one is an American lady new to quilting. We try to meet once a month to sew, talk, eat, attend a workshop or an exhibition. Life seems to have got in the way of these days a bit lately but we hope to be back on track this weekend for Ally Pally. You can see the sort of things we get up to at

I currently have two quilts at the quilting stage, at least three quilt tops made up and several small projects on the go (bags, pictures), and too little time for all the ideas that pop into my head. I need to retire with a view to spending more time on my craft's and experiments with fabric, thread and mixed media. I am going to end this post with that blissful thought.
